Permissions

Speakly asks for four things; two of them are required. Everything is granted and re-checked from Settings → Permissions, whose own summary reads: "Speakly needs Microphone access to work. Other permissions enhance the experience."

macOS

Keyboard Shortcut (Required)

A global hotkey, so recording can start from any app. The app's own line: "Allows you to activate Speakly from anywhere with a hotkey." Set it in Settings → General → Keyboard shortcut → View.

Microphone Access (Required)

Records the audio that gets transcribed. Grant it with Grant Access in Settings → Permissions, or directly in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.

Accessibility Access (Optional)

Needed for the global hotkey to be seen everywhere, for the result to be pasted into the app you were typing in, and for reading the text visible in the front window — which Agent Mode always does, and a Custom Prompts rule does when you tick Read my screen for context. That text goes only to the AI model you configured. Path: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility.

Screen Recording Access (Optional)

Lets Speakly read the name and title of the window in focus, which is what picks the matching writing style and rule. It captures no pixels — the *visible text* of a window is read through Accessibility, not through this permission. Path: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording.

Windows

Microphone (Required)

Allow microphone access, including access for desktop apps, in Windows Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone (Windows 10: Privacy → Microphone).

Administrator (Optional)

Run Speakly as administrator if you need the hotkey to work while an elevated application has focus.
