Menu Bar / Tray
Quick access from the menu bar
Speakly runs from the macOS menu bar and the Windows system tray. The icon's tooltip is Speakly. On Windows a left click opens the menu, not only a right click.
What the tray menu contains
The menu is the same on every platform. Top to bottom:
- Home — shows the main window and switches it to the Home tab.
- Microphone — submenu of your input devices, with a check mark on the one in use. It reads Loading... until the app window has sent the device list.
- Target Language — submenu for the transcription output language: English first, then every language in alphabetical order. Flags are shown on macOS only; Windows menus show the plain name.
- Copy Last Transcript — copies the last transcription to the clipboard. It is greyed out until there is one, and it only copies: it does not paste into the app in front of you.
- Start Recording / Stop Recording — one item whose label follows the recording state.
- Talk to Support — shows the main window and opens the Report an issue dialog.
- General Feedback — shows the main window and opens the same dialog on its feedback tab.
- Quit — quits Speakly.
No Settings and no Custom Prompts here
The tray menu has no Settings entry and no Custom Prompts entry. Settings opens from the Settings button at the bottom of the app's left sidebar, and custom prompts from the Custom Prompts tab in that same sidebar.
The icon does not change while you record
The tray icon is created once at startup and never replaced, so it looks the same whether Speakly is idle, recording or transcribing. On macOS it is a template image, so it follows a light or dark menu bar on its own. The only thing that changes during a recording is the menu label, which flips between Start Recording and Stop Recording.
